“A person belongs where he is born. We are Majoreros, it does not make us better than anyone or worse than anyone, we are from a place, from here, from a desert island, that this shapes our way of being.
When we open our eyes we see a flat place that opens up to us, we see everything, we look at other islands, we look at Lanzarote, and we see the sea. Being a Majorero is like being born on a boat, we were born on an island, I am from the interior, from the countryside, as a boy I took care of goats, I went up to the mountain and saw the sea here, there, there and there, I am from here, from this site, this, on the one hand, is pride, that is to say, every time I go to this world and say, I am a Canarian, I am from Fuerteventura, I am from Tetir, my soul get bigger, but at the same time it is a prison because I would like to not being from anywhere and being at ease wherever I go. A canarian person always misses the earth, the sea, or an island. Why? Because we have this sense of place, of belonging of being from a place, the sea defines the territory for us,” explain Domingo Colorao about being a Majorero.
